Physical preparation

Jean-Christophe’s physical preparation is vital and effective all year round.
His training is organized around his assignments.
For example, to prepare for an expedition to the Himalayas, he’ll carry out an aerobic training program to develop his resistance to physical effort. Generally in this type of exercise the vertical distance climbed is quite high, between 3000 and 4000 meters. This session can last between 3 and 6 hours.
During the week the number of training sessions varies from 4 to 6.
Jean-Christophe trains in the following sports: climbing, road cycling, mountain biking, mountain cross-country racing, ski-touring, cross-country skiing.

The cycling is often shared between two with TOM (4) in the carrier behind one of his parents!
This “aerobic” training forms the groundwork for the rest of his preparation.

He changes to "interval training" which is done...in short and intense periods to improve his VO2 max.
Trips to the Mont-Blanc massif, Jean-Christophe’s laboratory!
He goes, usually by himself, to do ice-climbing, rock or mixed climbing depending on what he wants to perfect. He develops his technique, reflexes, intuition, the use and testing of his equipment. He chooses to go on the mountain in bad weather conditions to work on his orientation and mental state.
